Join The Big Adventure
The Big Adventure . . . Gets Cooking! 1st May - 31st August 2010
The Big Adventure is a great way to recruit new adults into Scouting.
It is about inviting parents and other adults to take part in a camp or event as part of the leadership team. By taking an active part in the event parents get to experience the highlights of making Scouting happen, encouraging them to volunteer further for Scouting in the future.
Why The Big Adventure?
Research has shown that involving parents and other adults connected with Groups in the leadership team on a residential experience is a good tipping point for converting them into more active volunteers. Residential experiences give adults the chance to get to know people (both adults and young people), take on a real role and really experience what Scouting is all about. It's also a perfect opportunity for them to see how much the young people involved really get from their Scouting experiences.
Feedback from 2009
More than 500 Scout Groups took part in The Big Adventure in 2009. You can read about the results here.
How do I get involved?
Any camp, residential experience or other event running 1st May - 31st August 2010 can be part of The Big Adventure. All you need to do is invite parents to be part of the leadership team.
Your event might be a Section event, Group camp or as part of a larger District or County event - it's up to you!
