About Natural England...

Natural England is an independent public body whose purpose is to protect and improve England’s natural environment and encourage people to enjoy and get involved in their surroundings.

Their broad remit means that their reach extends across the country. They work with people such as farmers, town and country planners, researchers and scientists, and the general public on a range of schemes and initiatives.

Put simply, their aim is to create a better natural environment that covers all of England's urban, country and coastal landscapes, along with all of the animals, plants and other organisms that live with us.

Natural England is delighted to be sponsoring the Cub and Scout Naturalist Activity Badge.

The natural world is all around us and Natural England's job is to make certain that we look after it, enhance it and enjoy it in our daily lives.

The natural world is fascinating and getting out and exploring it is great fun. As Cubs and Scouts know, our natural habitats are vital to wildlife and our own survival both now and in the future.

The Naturalist Activity Badge encourages Cubs and Scouts to go on an outdoors adventure to learn about the place where they live, to discover the wonders of the natural world and how through our lives we might affect the world around us.

Natural England will give plenty of new ideas and information about places to explore, offer activities and competitions to help discover plants and creatures on our doorstep, provide opportunities for Cubs and Scouts to get involved in fantastic events and provide useful resources for Leaders to support the delivery of the two Naturalist Activity Badges.

We aim to get a million children outdoors and exploring the natural world in the next three years and the activities of the Naturalist Activity Badge will go a long way towards this.

We want to double the number of children visiting farms and our national nature reserves, as well as launch an exciting interactive wildlife gardening website, promoting healthy walks and school initiatives and activities associated with our marine campaign too, and that's just in the first year, so what are you waiting for? Go take a look at what is on offer at the Natural England website.
