In June 2006 I went on a pioneering weekend to try to earn my Pioneering Badge. I was really excited because I got to go to Hamlet Wood.
Over the weekend, we spent some time practising some of the knots we would need for the weekend, and then we had to revise the knots we had learned so that they would do the job.
The next morning (after a breakfast of bacon, eggs, fried bread and beans!) we began work on three projects: a monkey bridge; an aerial runway (zipwire) and a swing boat. I helped with the swing boat. It was huge! (about 30 feet high). The knots proved themselves to be strong enough after an adult Leader climbed it add a rope.
The next day was our last day, and examination day. When we gathered to find out if we had gained our badges we found out we had all done it! 100%!
That was my pioneering weekend.
