Environmental sustainability funding available
13/01/2012
Please be aware, the information in this article is no longer current.
We have recently been informed of a new £10 million fund from the Department of Energy and Climate Change to support community energy projects.
Application deadlines for the fund are extremely tight and applications need to be submitted by 20 January 2012.
Funding will provide grants from around £50,000 up to a maximum of £130,000 for the following activities:
- Assessments of the energy efficiency of homes and buildings
- Running demonstration projects for the types of measures that will shortly be available through the Green Deal (eg, solid wall insulation)
- Carrying out feasibility studies for community renewable energy projects
- Running public awarenessâraising and engagement events and meetings
- Looking at your strategy for exploiting the renewable heat incentive and Green Deal, and the potential for training and delivery of energy efficiency or renewable energy projects (eg, local employment following training and accreditation of Green Deal advisers).
The fund is to give communities a head start on the Green Deal (improving homes), the payments that will be available through the Renewable Heat Incentive (heat-generating renewable energy technologies), and encouraging take-up of technologies that benefit from the Feed-in Tariff (electricity generating renewable energy technologies).
It will be available for any legally incorporated not-for-profit groups – including voluntary groups, parish councils, Co-ops, faith groups, registered providers and community interest companies.
This funding would be most suitable for groups which are already looking at renewable energy for their headquarters or building and in the process of sourcing funding in this area, as projects need to be completed by 31 March 2012.
