Scouts taking action
This campaign calls for an exemption from the charges for community and voluntary groups, or a social tariff scheme which will ensure Scout Groups are issued with affordable bills.
This campaign has already secured substantial victories, including a delay on the charges in the North West and questions in the House of Commons about the charges and conduct of Ofwat.
In addition, The Scout Association's Public Affairs and Campaigns Team have also been able to secure meetings with a number of the water companies and Ofwat to raise Scouting's case.
Early Day Motion 985
An Early Day Motion supporting our campaign and calling for a social tariff for water charges has been signed by over 70 MPs.
Last month we asked people to encourage their MP to sign Early Day Motion 985, tabled on our behalf by John Battle MP. Over 70 MPs have signed the motion, showing their support for a social tariff for community and voluntary groups.
View the content of the Early Day Motion and see which MPs have signed it.
If your MP has not signed the Motion, you can send them an email and ask them to do so.
The number of MPs that sign the Motion indicates the level of support for our campaign, so it is important that we obtain as many signatures as possible.
Lobbying
A letter has been going out to Scout volunteers throughout the country encouraging them to join the campaign. Download the letter sent to Scout volunteers.
A letter has been sent to water companies explaining the potential negative impact on Scout Groups if the tax is put into practice. Download an example of the letter sent to water companies.
Letters have also been written to MPs asking for their support on this issue. Download the letter sent to MPs.
