Gilwell Courses

British Red Cross Trainer Training (RCC14)
Date: 19th – 22nd October 2010
£405 - Residential (White House)  £260 - Camping
Information:This course is for adults who wish to provide First Aid training to both young people and adults within The Scout Association. The course provides participants with a British Red Cross (BRC) Practical First Aid Certificate and a recognised BRC Trainer and Assessor Award. This allows participants to run and award BRC awards to other Members of The Scout Association and Girlguiding UK, as well as providing adults with the necessary qualifications to run First Response courses.

Participants will require a current first aid certificate of First Response level or equivalent and will need to have or be working towards their Presenting and Facilitating modules.

Applications will be taken on a first come first served basis, from 18th December 2009.  Please note that places will not be reserved until the deposit is received.

Directing Learning Course (DLC6)
Date: 26th-29th October 2010
Price: £215 – Residential (Peter Harrison Lodge)
Information:This course will prepare you with the skills needed for planning and delivering a learning experience, and it covers the learning for modules 31 and 32 of the UK Adult Training Scheme. 

The course is for people who take on the role of ‘course director’ in Scouting.

This might mean taking on any of these responsibilities:

  • directing residential courses, or courses running over more than one day
  • organising or leading a ‘multi-module’ day or similar
  • leading a team to deliver a training course which covers a combination of modules
  • having overall responsibility for a training course where different people take on different aspects of planning and running it (eg. a Nights Away course where different trainers run different bits, and the venue and equipment need co-ordinating)
  • Organising a training course where you manage a team of trainers (and possibly facilitators) to deliver training

This course is open to participants from the UK and from other countries. If you are not from the UK please contact Rosie Shepherd in the Adult Support team (contact details are below) before applying, to discuss whether the course meets your needs. We will aim to accept a balance of participants from different countries to ensure that everyone gets the most our of their experience.

Section Leader Training (SLT10)
Date: 10th - 16th April 2010
Price: £440 - Residential £295 - Camping
Information:This course covers the learning required for modules 5-9 and 11-19 of the Adult Training Scheme.  It aims to give you practical information, advice and support for running your Section.  You will try out new ideas and theories, and return home with a host of new skills that you will be able to directly apply to your role.  During the course you will have the opportunity to work with other Section Leaders from across the UK – both from your own and other Sections.  You will also have a chance to explore Gilwell Park and enjoy some social time with other participants.

Please note that this course covers the learning required for a Section Leader Wood Badge (excepting Module 10 First Aid).  You will still need to validate your training locally in order to achieve your Wood Badge.  To attend this course you need to have already completed your Getting Started training (Modules 1, 2 and 3).

There may be the opportunity to take part in one of the adventurous activities at Gilwell Park during the course for an additional cost.  If you might be interested in this option please indicate on your application form so that we know whether to organise it or not.

We reserve the right to restrict the number of participants applying from the same Group or Section – much of the benefit of this course comes from sharing experiences with other participants, and this is best achieved when people are coming from a variety of Groups.
