Welcome to Scout Active Support

Scout Active Support provides a new way for adults to volunteer for The Scout Association in a flexible way. Scout Active Support can do anything that supports Scouting. Below are a few examples:

Programme delivery to young people

  • A District Scout Active Support Unit could be a source of extra adult help in Leader absence. Or they could teach skills that the existing Leader team do not have, such as pioneering.
  • The County Scout Active Support Unit could provide support to Explorer Scouts or the Scout Network when planning international expeditions. This could include fundraising.

Development of Scouting

  • A Group Scout Active Support Unit could provide Training Advisers to all Leaders in the Scout Group. This could include delivering Module 1, Essential Information, to all new adults supporting the Group including parents.
  • A District Scout Active Support Unit could provide catering at District events during the year. This could include District Sectional Camps, District Meetings and the District AGM.

Appointments Secretaries and the Transition

From 31st December 2010 all current Scout Fellowship roles (Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant County Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioner and member) will be closed on www.scouts.org.uk.

Members of the Scout Fellowship who wish to continue to support Scouting must be registered as Scout Active Support members. This is particularly important if they hold no other active roles within Scouting.

Before you can add Scout Active Support members, a Scout Active Support Manager should be appointed and registered on www.scouts.org.uk. This role is an appointment of the Group Scout Leader, District Commissioner or County/Area/Regional Commissioner.

The process you put in place to change Scout Fellowship members to Scout Active Support members is up to you and we suggest that you discuss this with your District or County/Area/Regional Commissioner to decide on the most appropriate approach.

For some the most appropriate approach may be to request new AA forms as this will help to identify changes to individual records and any CRB checks that are required.

However, for others it may simply be an agreement that Scout Active Support Managers will send an updated list of members to the Appointments Secretary to be added to the database.

If you would like further support or practical advice about the transition then please do not hesitate to contact active.support@scouts.org.uk.

Is there any recruitment material for Active Support?

AS IF! JUST ASK!

Visit The Scout Association’s one stop communications centre. It is there to help you create, personalise and print inspiring communications.

It’s perfect for:

  • learning about the ‘everyday adventure’ of Scouting
  • accessing branded Word templates (check out the Tools and Resources/Download area)
  • accessing the Scout logo (again, this is in the Tools and Resources/Download area – and much better to use than the old Scouts Logofont which will appear as an ‘S’ to anyone who does not have the font installed).

It also includes a print centre which allows you to create:

  • posters

  • flyers

  • invitations

  • banners

  • stationery.

To use the print centre, simply log in using your user name and password while in the communications centre. The print centre icon also appears in the my tools menu once you have logged in to scouts.org.uk

You have the option of printing the resources you create yourself or with a commercial print partner (the BPC Group).

We’ll be developing and adding new resources to this area over the coming months, so keep coming back for more.
